The Environment

MRUse saves its data in a file called MRUse.MRU. MRUse creates this file as a default; you can at any time rename or delete this file, and MRUse will grow another one automatically.

The file MRUse.MRU can be inspected with Notepad but ought not to be edited as this may well void the checksums and binary data.

The file MRUse.MRU, while developed and maintained in these examples by Word2000 can be shared dynamically by any other appliaction, such as Microsoft Excel or Lotus-123.

The file MRUse.MRU is kept up to date during a Word user session, so that the data presented in the drop-down file list is as current as possible. If you delete a file, that act of deletion will be reflected in your drop-down list within your current session.

MRUse stores its user-environment data in a text file called MRUse.INI.

The file MRUse.INI can be inspected and edited with Notepad, but I recommend that you use MRUse’s own GUI form to make changes to your operating environmant.

MRUse develops a log file of its activities, and stores the data in a file MRUse.LOG.

The file MRUse.LOG can be inspected with Notepad. The logging mechanism trims stale data from the front of the log to ensure that the log file does not bloat.

All three files are stored under the Documents And Settings folder, typically in a path such as this:

C:\Documents and Settings\ChrisL1\Application Data\Greaves\MRUse

Where “ChrisL1” represents the user name and “Greaves” is my surname, the name under which I store user data for all my applications.
