Choosing Who I Follow
After a month or so I am getting the hang of this.
I think that this “follower” came from me following someone else, whose posts I have admired.
Who is this second-level follower?
I’m glad to have someone aboard, but will I be glad to have them populate my reading list?
I inspect their latest eight tweets – that’s what fits on my screen, and note that:-
Note 1: They seem to average about a dozen tweets per day.
Note 2: Their tweets seem to convey no meaningful information, no link I can follow.
Note 3: “taking the dog out and heading to bed” is akin to “walking past a tree”, that is, the posts are of a personal nature whereas I am interested in Business tweeting.
Not a candidate for me to follow.
I have developed a pattern.
Remember that I am conservative, and am being distinctly selective in who I follow.
Here’s someone who is following me; let’s assume that they have passed all my tests so far (doesn’t spout obscenities, doesn’t tweet 50 times a day about “walking past a tree”).
Twitter tells me who they follow and who follows them.
I eyeball the list, and if none of the following ring a bell, I don’t follow my new follower.
I’m happy to concede that Mike, Jeff and Easy are nice folks (I don’t know, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt), but we aren’t that close.
And yes, perhaps if I reached out to them we might become close, but I’m still at the stage of thinking of a somewhat restricted group or clique for myself.
