Business Tweeting

In the first four weeks I seemed to attract about two dozen avid followers; I soon realized that these were people who harvested new accounts in the hopes of raising THEIR number of followers.

They are easy to spot; they start following, but don’t have any coherent remark in any way geared to what I’m tweeting about (business computing, events, ecology).

I ignore them.

I start following some tweets to see what happens. Some appear vaguely interesting, but the first obscenity sees me UnFollowing them. I already know how to swear, but I’m not in this for a swearing contest. It’s a business tweet.

I try to make 9 out of 10 posts convey useful information NOT about me. I want to position myself as someone who, once a day, comes up with something of value.

I do NOT have a tweet-phone; all tweeting is done from the desktop computer in my home office; consequently I am not tempted to tweet-when-bored, but only when something of value crosses my path.

I figure that I can tweet about myself perhaps once a fortnight.

About two months have passed. I am being followed by the vermicomposting and gardening crowd. Second Use For Everything is one of my passions.

It is not, however, my business.

I rather wish now that I had created a disposable email address to host a Personal Twitter account and used my regular email account for the Business Twitter account.
