Before you ever even knew

I wanted to be, with you.

From that hesitant beginning

I had thoughts of winning

You over to my way of thinking,

My mind sinking, into yours,

Your thoughts invading mine.

“It’s scary!”, you said, when I read your day

Back to you from the tone in your voice.

One word: “Hi!” and I knew your mind

I was in your mind.

I knew all of your day.

But the wind whines cold through the doorway

And the papers all fall to the floor

And the stub of this pencil is broken,

And the love don’t flow no more.
