Walk Toronto
Walk 2: The Danforth – Victoria Park to Coxwell
Ride the subway to Victoria Park Station, between Main Street and Warden. There is a short walk South to Danforth Avenue, where you will turn right, facing West.
Five miles away you will see the towers of The Bay, CIBC, ManuLife buildings at the intersection of Bloor and Yonge.
To your left is the original shopping mall in Toronto, many-times refurbished. The original saw-tooth factory roof is still visible.
I said I wasn’t going to make recommendations, and I’m not, this is for an example: In the Zellers store you will find a clean low-cost diner where you can get a decent breakfast or lunch (or dinner) at the start of your trip. If you’d rather not sit in a windowless cafeteria, just start walking. There are more places to snack, drink or dine than you can shake a stick at.
I can stroll, not walk, to Coxwell in about two hours, even allowing for popping into three or four stores along the way. books, model railways, stamps & postcards, travel, clothes, variety stores, car dealers. It’s all here.
Victoria Park to Main Street
This section is predominantly asian in the natre of stores. You’ll eat food stuffs from the Indian sub-continent and purchase knick-knacks of oriental bent.
Towards Main Street style switches back to Western. Dankworth’s Fish & Chips claims to be Toronto’s finest, but the store-front paint is peeling and *I* believe that the Kingsway is best (Bloor Street West of Royal York).
Main Street to Woodbine Avenue
I couldn’t resist taking a photograph of this cheeky sign (the lower one!)
There be second-hand bookshops here.
