Christopher Greaves KingChurch.png

The detail above, taken from the city's PATH map shows our entry/exit into the PATH system, the west side of Victoria street.

The map above shows our trek as a zig-zag which maximises our shelter from the elements. St James Cathedral is set in a grassy area at the right; The Dominion Trust Centre building is the large chamfered square building to the left.

(1) Exit St James Cathedral by the West door (left, rear of the church) or by the South door (centre rear)

(2) Walk the diagonal concrete path to the north-east corner of King and Church. Note that streetcars run along King Street.

(3) Cross Church street on the north side of King (towards Quesada)

(5) Enter the CIBC bank and keep walking to pass into the lobby of 1 Toronto Street. Aim for the sign “Elevator for Parking”.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0181.JPG

Or continue westwards along the portico to Toronto Street.

(6) Exit 1 Toronto Street and cross Toronto street to enter 20 Toronto Street.

(8) Walk through 20 Toronto Street to reach the lobby onto Victoria Street; as you exit Service Ontario will be to your left.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0186.JPG

(9) Cross Victoria Street and walk down the alley that starts about ten yards towards King Street.

Also known as “Smoker’s Alley”.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0187.JPG

(10) This alley leads to Yonge Street, but we will bear right to walk across a brick-paved court and enter the Dominion Finance Tower.

There is Moore’s store on the west (far) side of Yonge Street.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0188.JPG

(11) Walk through the alley until you find the bricked courtyard on your right-hand side.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0189.JPG

(12) Turn right to cross the courtyard and enter the Dominion Trust Centre building.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0190.JPG

Here we are about to enter the Dominion Trust Centre building. Yes, that’s me, hogging the centre of the photo as usual. To the left of the image you can see a crowd inside waiting for an elevator.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0191.JPG

(13) Walk through the lobby until you reach the south-east corner of Yonge and Adelaide.

(14) To your left you will see stairs down to (and elevator up from) the subterranean PATH level.

(15) Walk down the stairs and turn right.

(16) If you need something from STAPLES now is the time to get it!

(1) STAPLES is visible on the east side of Yonge Street, and has a subterranean level connected to the PATH system.

Here we are standing outside Staples on the lowest of the store’s three levels.

(2) (From the lower-level of STAPLES) Ahead and slightly to your right you will see an escalator to the lobby of the Dominion Finance Tower. Take the elevator to the lobby.

(3) And here we are in the lobby at the top of the escalator staring out of the Adelaide/Yonge corner of the lobby.

We are about to turn right and walk through the elevator corridors (there are two!)

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0161.JPG

(4) Walk through the lobby, past the elevator columns, to the south-west façade of the building.

Look above the garbage bin on the left-hand side; above it is a globular lamp and behind that is a sign that says “Victoria Street”, trust me!

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0162.JPG

My friend Cathy should have an office here!

(5) Walk across the brick-paved court, turn left (East) and walk through the “Smoker’s Alley” to Victoria Street.

(6) here is the view through “Smoker’s Alley” on our way to Victoria Street.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0165.JPG

(7) Cross Victoria Street and enter 20 Toronto Street (yes, it is on Victoria Street; Welcome to Toronto!) to the left (north) of Service Ontario.

Our entrance is behind the lamppost that is near the dark green “Service Ontario” sign.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0166.JPG

(8) Enter and walk through 20 Toronto Street to reach the lobby of 1 Toronto Street onto Toronto Street.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0167.JPG

(9) Here is the straight-through corridor that connects Toronto Street to Victoria Street or, perhaps, Victoria Street to Toronto Street.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0169.JPG

(10) Our entrance to 1 Toronto Street is indicated by the pale-green triangular arch above the doorway.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0170.JPG

(11) Here is that pale-green triangular arch in glorious detail.

(12) Proof that we are about to enter One Toronto Street.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0172.JPG

(13) Walk through the lobby of 1 Toronto Street and enter the CIBC bank.

We will follow the lady as she dekes around the dog-leg corridor to the CIBC branch.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0173.JPG

(14) Here we are about to enter and walk through the CIBC bank.

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0174.JPG

(15) Walk through the CIBC bank to exit at its south-east corner into the portico that runs along the north side of King Street at this point..

Christopher Greaves StJamesCathedral_DSCN0175.JPG

(16) Walk along the portico to Church Street.

(17) St James Cathedral is on the far side of Church street.
