My idea (it wan’t yet a plan) from about a year ago was to travel to Yuma Arizona in January or February 2016 and spend a few weeks sitting in the sun and reading books. Then the Canadian Dollar dropped from about $1 to about $0.70, and I got cold feet about paying for lavish lunches for financial moguls.

A Christmas present was “All Aboard” by Jim Loomis, roughly 400 pages of useable infprmation about AmTrak (and a host of life-changing attitudes as well!) which made me wonder about an expansion of my trip.

In particular I had been comntemplating a very jerky start fro Toronto via Buffalo and Chicago to join the Texas Eagle, with lengthy and awkward long stopovers and delays at the border. Why no fly Porter Airlines from downtown Toronto to Chicago and just do the Eagle leg?

Or why not avoid annoying layovers and plan to spend a minium of 24 hours in each city? Why not replace “Yuma” with some other almost-as-sunny destination, or just RideTheRails around the country?
