In the Countryside

I will not have the time to visit every line of the Tramslinean network. I do have the time, in advance, to search out details to help me decide which line to visit.

From my map collection I have identified twenty-one lines as candidates; short lines to DisneyLand and are not candidates.

A candidate destintion is at the end, or near-end, of a line, with a village that supports a small café, and another station, within walking distance, that supports a brasserie.

An allied consideration is if the line is an RER line, where trains are generally every 15 minutes. For example I can travel out to Robinson on the B2, lunch, return as far as Bourg la reine, then continue outwards on B4 to Saint Remy, making two towns in one trip, as it were.

For each terminus I’ve built a page with

1: The name of the terminus

2: Timetables from and to Paris

3: Duration of the trip

4: An overview Google map scaled at

5: Detailed restaurant maps of each nearby village or town.

Details

3

Bruyeres

Y

Persan has lots of restaurants near the station; is served by THREE different routes out of Gare du Nord.

7

Maule

Y

Maule, Mareil and Beynes all have eats. And a road that runs between them.

9

Rambouillet

Y

Rambouillet has lots of eats, frequent rain service. Le Perray has lots of eats but a 7km walk from Rambouillet. Les Essarts has lots of eats, is not a long walk from Le Perray.

10

Versailles

Y

Has to be more expensive/tourist-centric than the Champs Elysee. However, I can travel out on the C8 from Austerlitz via Juvisy, and return via the C7 via Tour Eiffel; or return by the C2 and Massy Palaiseau.

11

Robinson

Y

B2

Ride to Robinson, return to Fontenay, walk & eat, return by bus?

14

Etampes

Y

C6

Etampes and Etrechy seem OK; RER 15 mins?

15

Malesherbes

Y

D4

Maisse, Botigny and La Ferte-Alais are adjacent and have eats.

16

Montargis

Y

Souppes Chateau Landon has eats; Nemours Saint Pierre has eats and a canal and a river

18

Montereau

Y

Champagne-sur-Seine has eats and is on the river.

1

Survilliers

D1

Louvres and Gousanville both have restaurants near the station, but not an easy walk between the two stations.

2

Luzarches

Viarmes has lots of restaurants, but a long way from the station; the others have few restaurants.

5

Pointoise

C1

6

Bonnieres

Bonnieres and Rosny both have eats. About a 5Km walk.

8

Houdan

Houdan has eats near the station. Plaisir is the next place with eats, and is served by two lines.

12

Saint-Remy

B4

Saint Remy has eats, Courcelles and Gif have none.

13

Dourdan

C4

Saint-Cheron and Breuillet have restaurants and are about 4 Km apart.

17

Melun

D2

From Gare de Lyon.

19

Provins

Except for Mormant there don’t appear to be many eats. It is probably not worth the trip (90 mins?) to Provins.

20

Coulommiers

Coulommiers has eats, but the rest of the line back to Tournan(E4) has little to recommend it.

21

Tournan

E4

Is en route to Coulommiers

22

Crecy

Crécy-la-Chapelle and Couilly - Saint-Germain both have eats but it looks like a bit of a shuffle to a second line to get through Esbly

23

Nanteuil

Practically nothing in the way of eats.

24

Crouy

Hourly service, no eats, long walks.

25

Dammartin

Not much in the way of eats.

Christopher Greaves Carte_reseau_transilien.pdf

I have used my RER map and my Michelin 1cm=1Km to locate potential RER stations.

Friday, April 11, 2014 I walked 6+ Km from the High Park loop to Queensway, then up to the junction, down to Keele subway.

Sunday, May 11, 2014 walked 8,785 steps, 4.1 miles (6.6 Km), 90 minutes net walk time

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

A thought strikes me: Here I am cataloguing villages, restaurants etc. Then I come to Crouy sur Ourcq which has but one restaurant. What if it is open only for the evening, and I land there at mid-day?

Sunday, August 03, 2014

There again, why this business of “walk to the next station”? Why not choose lines with 15 minute service and walk into one town for a coffee, hop the train, walk into another town for lunch?

Monday, August 04, 2014

Here is a list of stations. I eye-balled each one of my screen snapshots and made a list of stations that appeared to have numerous eating-places within about a kilometre of the station. I eliminated all stations that appeared to be on a 30-minute or more schedule during the day. That left me with a list of stations well-served by restaurants and trains.

Rambouilet

Robinson

Persan

Le Perray

Saint Remy

Les Essarts ???

Fontenay Aux Roses

Next a table of 30-minute schedules

Dourdan

Saint Cheron

Etrechy

Breuillet

Chamarande

Baynes

Meule

Mareil

The current theory is that I travel on a 15-minute schedule; if the town doesn’t appeal, I’ve at most 15 minutes to wait for another train.

If I exhaust the 15-minute schedules (or if it has little significance) I have a fall-back set of destinations.
