And it's Ho! Let’s Go to Victor and then Penn Yan NY!!
Why? Why not?
I've driven through Penn Yan many times on my way back from the Chef's Diner at Montour Falls, but that's been around 7:30 at night after two days cruising bookshops.
This time we are booked to stay a night in Victor (small and somewhat boring) and Penn Yan (has TWO active second-hand bookshops!)
We tried to drive from Victor due East through a few small towns en route to Geneva, but were thwarted by a road closure signed "Local Traffic only". I've tried arguing logically with road crews that the term "local" is relative, but came off second best both times, so we just headed south via Canandaigua and didn't stop for an ice-cream.
In Manchester (I think) we spotted this lovely house with cared-for garden.
Here is a view of the Western side.
Another view of part of the yard.
There is a small wossit (It can't be a lych-gate; that's for churches)
Here we are in Penn Yan; this river/creek is possibly the Keuka; it drains into The Swamp which is at the northern end of the Y-shaped Keuka lake.
Here is a better view of the river.
The main street sports several diners and cafes.
Also two second-hand book stores. That's one in the ground floor of the three-storey building across the intersection. Another one is just behind me as I take this photo of the restaurant where we had lunch.
The hanging baskets are spectacular.
In the evening we retired to Seneca Farms, about half-a-mile west of town on, I think, highway 54.
The ribs were nothing to write home about, but the ice-cream(s) made the trip worthwhile!
Kind of nice to sit outside shoveling sundaes and cones into the gullet.
Continuing the aviation theme, here's a photo of a vapor trail being made alongside a dispersed trail of about twenty minutes earlier, showing how the higher-altitude winds are hard at work.
We spotted a most unusual (to use) ladybird, with bronze wings instead of red wings with black polka-dots.
As usual I screwed up on the close-range photography.
Then the little bug started to hide, and so I managed to get only one other blurry shot of him/her/it.
