My last full day in Newfoundland. Unlike previous trips I have spent time keeping my diary pages up to date at the expense of other computer-related activities such as email. I am glad I have done this. In the past I have found that typing up notes after I return home takes the bloom of the excitement of the trip.

Today I shall make a preliminary balance of monetary accounting, matching my expenses spreadsheet against my credit-card and bank statements, so that by Thursday I will be able to sign off on everything and make payments, shuffle excess money back into high-interest savings accounts, and so on.

In case you are wondering why I am sitting in a motel on my last full day in Newfoundland, I can tell you that:-

(1) I am delighted that Metrobus is so screwed up that I have been able to use these past two days to get my writing pretty well up to date.

(2) Ditto balancing my credit card and bank accounts.

(3) Except I got confused and so copied the PDF files to a memory key and went out to get them printed to paper.

(4) And on the way home, it being lunchtime, I stopped in at Sobey’s and found that they are selling meat pies at one dollar each, cash, no tax.

I am in such a good mood that I splashed out (into extravagance and the rain) and spent TWO dollars. My least expensive lunch on this trip so far.

Tonight I shall celebrate and take Myself out to dinner and maybe, perhaps, buy myself a tub of ice-cream on the way home. The motel has plastic spoons in the kitchenette and it will make a change from eating ice-cream with a plastic fork.

Wrapping up: I used the printouts of two months of accounts to satisfy myself that everything balanced with my expenses spreadsheet, into which I had keyed in data from every paper receipt and hand-written notes.

Paid the balance on the credit card.

There will still be the reckoning up with the car rental company, and a flat-fee cab ride to the airport. Mere details.

I’ll fly home with my web pages complete, my banking complete. Maybe I’ll take Thursday off except for wandering up to the Yorkville Public Library to collect eight books and movies.

Which, like me, are In Transit!
