Toolbar “Quickies”
Welcome to the cheap’n’nasty of the macro world!
Remember that I habitually migrate useful code from my Normal.dot to my Utils.dot, and just as regularly I copy a pristine version of Normal.dot to replace the old one. Creating stuff in Normal.dot is, for me, like scribbling on a desktop blotter (remember them?) There’ll be a fresh sheet in the morning.
Bearing this in mind, here’s how I develop an easy way to do boring and repetitive tasks.
From Word:
- From the menu system choose "Tools, Macro, Record".
- Click on the button that says “Toolbars”.
After a short pause you’ll see the Customize Box and the Command tab.
- Drag the “Normal.NewMacros.Macro1” item from the Customize Box up and onto your Word toolbar.
You’ll see the familiar “toolbar with a stop button”
- Perform the actions you need to record.
- From the menu system choose "Tools, Macro, Stop Recording".
The three signs of macro recording should disappear.
- You can now click on your toolbar macro to effect a repetition of the recorded commands.
