08:15:50: Activated Windows7 and Office2003 after installing the three KB articles mentioned through Eileen’s and Woody’s Lounge.
I begin checking for updates (001) around 8:15; there is a burst of d/l activity (002) and then we settle in for the long haul.
At 8:46 (003) I notice a short burst of d/l
At 8:55 (004) I am invited to d/l updates.
The process to d/l 162 updates begins (005)
The d/l speed is low (006) at about 360kB/s
I notice that the d/l reports progress as a percentage whereas installation reports progress by number. Why the difference?
At the 28% point, there is a period (007) of 4+ minutes with no d/l activity. The average drops to 270kB/s
By 9:27 we are (008) 97% complete.

At 10:03 I notice (011) SP1 being installed – takes about ten seconds.
Around 11:05 the Internet Explorer installation begins – with a massive d/l. Why didn’t this d/l an hour or so ago? The d/l takes about 3 minutes at 235kB/s.
I did a reinstall from the Win7HP SP1 DVD yesterday; it took about thirty minutes. Why does installation (not download, not checking) of downloaded patches take over two hours?
The #146 kicks in at 11:38, so the ie Update took about as long to install as the complete Win7 HP SP1.
