Styles in Microsoft Word
I’d like you to STOP USING
- The first few elements of the Format menu (Font, Paragraph, etc.),
- Those cute toolbar buttons to bold, italicize and underline text,
- The buttons that let you change font color,
I’d like you to
- Use Styles in Microsoft Word (and in Microsoft Excel!),
- Get rid of that format-painter toolbar button.
- Start using shortcut keys.
- Finish your work ahead of time
- Go home early.
I’m really keen on that last point; if you are too, read on, dear reader, read on!
Why so Strong on Styles?
Because when they are set up properly, styles cause your document to pretty well write itself!
Styles have been around for at least 20 years, in Word 2.0, AmiPro 3,1, WordPerfect. It is not new technology, yet most users of word-processors aren’t aware of the power.
I have prepared some web pages and associated video clips (about 2 minutes each) to show you just how useful and powerful these styles can be.
There are pages that describe the rationale behind styles, and I urge you to read those pages at least once, to get an idea of the mechanism.
It is not complicated.
