Secure

Save different and save often.

In particular

1: Always work on a COPY of the workbook. Never work on the original.

2:Save your work with a new version number (macro “SaveAsNewVersion”) before making a change that may not work, immediately after a successful test of a change.

3: Remember: Numbers are free, reruns are expensive.

SaveAsNewVersion

Make a secure copy of the workbook using SaveAsNewVersion.

After receiving the workbook(s), save them in a folder and mark each file read-only (right-click, Properties).

Make a copy of each file to a state amenable to versioning. For example rename “Braemar inputs rev 2.xls” to be “Brae_002.xls”. Subsequent generations will be 003, 004, 005 etc.

Numbers are free; reruns are expensive.

SaveAll

If you are brave enough to try fixing several workbooks simultaneously, use the macro SaveAll, but be aware that this really will save every open workbook, including any that you have loaded and modified for purely experimental reasons.

I recommend that you start your day’s work by copying workbooks to a working folder, and using only copies of workbooks.

At the end of the day, copy the few resulting good versions back to the home folder.
