The Document is Corrupted Internally

The larger the document, the more likely it is that Microsoft Word will find an excuse to corrupt it.

Recovery from a corrupt document (one that won’t load, or will refuse to permit navigation) is a separate issue.

Before we reach that stage we can take the view that the document being this large may well be near-critical condition, so we mount a pre-emptive strike and remove all traces of corruption.

Step 1: Select the entire Microsoft Word document and copy it to the clipboard (Ctrl-A, then Ctrl-C)

Step 2: Open a new Notepad document.

Step 3: Paste the clipboard into the Notepad.

Step 4: Select the entire Notepad document and copy it to the clipboard (Ctrl-A, then Ctrl-C)

Step 5: Paste the clipboard into a new Microsoft Word document.

Step 6: Save the new Microsoft Word document with a different name.

We found that the new document was only 59 KB in size – a reduction of 99%.

However we note too that this is just the raw text of the document without the image files.
