Diplomacy

Diplomacy is a board game invented by Alan B. Callahmer during the Cold War. It is as well a profession followed by diplomats from independent nations.

Diplomacy is a seven-sided chess board; each player starts with three kings. The winner is the one who first controls over half of the board.

Here’s the catch: You cannot win by yourself; you must enlist the help of some or all of the other players to help you win, but that means you have to enlist their help to knock them out of the game.

A manager’s job is to motivate the team to set aside things that they would rather do (spend time at home or on the golf course) in order to make the manager’s project a success. The manager’s job requires the same skills as the winner in the game of Diplomacy.

It is all about communication skills.

There is no element of luck – no roll of the dice, no toss of the coin, no spinning of the wheel, and no shuffling of cards. The board is there solely to keep track of who owns what.

To win at Diplomacy you need to improve your communication skills, for it is these skills alone that can help you win.

Do you manage a team of three or more people?

Do you teach in a school or college?

Are you in sales?

Then you should play Diplomacy.

Besides which, it is fun to play Diplomacy. It involves your neighbours. Real People.
