Grinding Breadcrumbs

This portrays at least three examples of SUFE; see if you can find a fourth!

Lower left corner of the image is my old mincer, hand powered, picked up in a junk store some fifteen years ago. I have to remove a kitchen drawer to clamp it to the counter, but it works well.

I have fastened a rinsed plastic bag (that used to contain chocolate chips) around the output spout of my mincer. Experience has shown me that fragments of ground dried bread can shoot several metres from the mincer. Now they will be harvested tidily.

To the right a foam tray of dried bread. I will often keep a crust from a shallow loaf in a jar in the refrigerator, then once a month dry them lightly in the oven and grind them, as I am doing today.

The plastic jar towards the rear brought almost a litre of mayonnaise home a few summers ago.

Here is my bread, crumbed. An out-of-focus shot. I use the fragments as croutons, scattered across a dandelion-leaf salad, or else use them as a base for a bowl of vegetable soup. The fragments soak up some of the soup and save me having to drink soup liquid from the bowl.
