Drip Coffee Makers

I was given four non-working drip coffee makers last week. I cannibalized two of them to resurrect the other two and was left of course with a heap of bits and pieces.

The short lengths of flexible tubing, rubber feet etc went into a “small fittings” carton to be used down the road. The various screws, bolts and nuts went in the screw-top jar labeled “Appliance Screws”, and I was left with plastic shells destined for the garbage bag. You win some, you lose some.

Then I realized that the basin that holds the filter and the coffee would make a flower pot, as would the reservoir that holds the water. Both have drainage holes in the bottom! No matter that they are irregular in shape; filled with soil and placed in an old stove drawer (two foot square six inches deep) filled with soil, I can have pots of herbs in a contained herb garden. Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme .
