Google Images says this is Jerusalem Artichoke

Wikipedia ; The Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus), also called sunroot, sunchoke, wild sunflower, [2] topinambur, [2] or earth apple, is a species of sunflower native to central North America . [3] [4] It is cultivated widely across the temperate zone for its tuber , which is used as a root vegetable

These images were taken July 10th 2023; we had a late start to the season.

I learned two lessons from this exercise:

(1) With Google Images, of the three images, only the second image was identified as Jerusalem Artichoke. I do believe that my third image is of a young artichoke shoot, but the bed is populated by weeds that mimic artichokes in their early days.

(2) In this case I knew that I had Jerusalem Artichokes; had I just stumbled across these plants in the wild, I might have identified them as something else altogether.

Harvesting: Starts mid-October. This year I will start root cellars and fill mesh-bags to give away with the free books.
