I was walking through a Underground Level of College Park last week and was struck by the apparent incongruity of this sign.
“Subway” is the name given to the Toronto Transit Commission’s underground rail system. It is called “The Metro” (as in “the metropolitan railway” in Montreal and in Paris. In London it is The Underground. (as in “the underground railway”).
Had I walked straight ahead, underneath the next overhead sign, and turned right to walk through the doors, I would have come to Subway, which is a chain of sandwich shops. Pretty good sandwiches, too, you ask me ...
