Second Use For Everything (SUFE)
Another lamp bulb burned out this week.
I read a lot ...
I take out the filament and glass stalk and loosely fill it with a mixture of shredded paper and diced carrot.
I add water and leave it overnight; this gives the paper a chance to absorb as much water as possible.
I sprinkle a teaspoon or so of worm castings.
My theory is that the bacteria in the castings will attack the carrot and make fodder for a colony of two worms.
Then I will begin the measure reproductive rates.
Clear Thinking on Transit Fares
The RATP solved this problem over thirty years ago. Today the Transilean network and the Navigo card make travel a breeze for people living within a 14,000 square kilometre region that surrounds and includes Paris.
(For an equivalent area draw a semi-circle based on Toronto and an arc that extends from London, through Hunstville, and out to Belleville. Drool!)
Five concentric zones; pay by zone. So, for example, live and work in the outer zone, Zone 5, pay a 1-zone fare. Live in zone 5 and work in zone 4, pay a 2-zone fare.
Get used to it.
Make it easy for the riders, that is, simple to understand and operate, and then resolve the payments to the individual transit networks behind closed doors.
I donít care what percentage of my fare goes to the Toronto Transit Commission and to Go Transit. I want a single ticket that takes me where I want to go.
