Meat Sauce
Meat sauce is dead-easy to make.
Basic ingredients are ground meat (pork, beef, veal), onion, garlic, spices, sugar and a can of plain old tomato sauce.
Onion |
One onion diced |
Fry gently until soft; about ten minutes. |

Ground beef |
One pound |
Break up and stir into the fried onion |
Simmer for about half an hour on low heat until the fat and water separates out. I drain the liquid into a bowl then keep the dripping for lining my bread tin and the broth for stock. |

Garlic |
One clove, diced fine |
Stir into the onion & beef material |
Curry Powder |
1 teaspoon |

Ground Paprika |
½ teaspoon |

Ground Black pepper |
½ teaspoon |
|
Ground ginger |
½ teaspoon |
Stir the four spices into the material |
Tomato sauce |
1 680ml can |
Stir this until well-mixed in the material. Gently bring to boil. Simmer for ½ hour. |
Sugar |
½ cup |
Stir this into the sauce, bring gently to the boil. |
I bottle a batch into 3 1-pound jam jars and sterilize them for later use. |
So this is enough for 6 meals of spaghetti and meat sauce. |
