No, hang on, I mean, Hang Up …

Hands up all of you who enjoy receiving telemarketing calls at supper-time?
(Not me: Stephen Harper Loses My Vote! )
Today’s Toronto Star carries an article titled “ Do Not Call List mostly working, survey finds “.
I read that:
- Eight in 10 consumers report getting fewer such calls (good)
- Fifty-one per report they now receive noticeably fewer or far fewer telemarketing calls (good)
- 24 per cent say they receive slightly fewer telemarketing calls (good)
- Five per cent say they receive no such calls at all.(good, but read on, dear reader, read on)
The Harris Decima survey, conducted by telephone from Feb. 24 to March 6 and has (sic!) a margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points, found 15 per cent of people report being plagued by more telemarketing calls despite being on the registry. That’s up from last year’s survey where 12 per cent had the same complaint.
Huh?
The “Eight in 10”(we must talk about strings and digits Real Soon Now) is, presumably, the groups of 51% and 24% and 5%.
But what about the 15% who apparently used the term “plagued”?
Plagued is a pretty strong word.
Sounds to me as if 80% are ho-hum but 15% are up in arms.
The clincher for me is the vehicle
Did you spot it?
Harris Decima conducted the survey by phone.
So presumably only the people who think the telephone bell is more important than the dinner bell responded.
Or only the bored and lonely people, or those with nothing better to do.
The rest of us ignored the phone call when Call display showed a 1-800 number or an “Unknown name”.
Why use a telemarketing ploy to poll about telemarketing?
