How to Tell If Your President is Lying

“We are going to hit/slap Canada with 25% tariffs unless Canada acts to prevent illegal migrants and Fentanyl crossing the border into the United States of America”

Did I get that right? Do you agree that I have faithfully represented one sentence issued by Trump last February?

If so, let’s see if he can possibly be telling the truth. I shall ignore here Trump’s belligerent and bellicose style of speech, as in “slap”, “hit”, instead of “impose tariffs”

What Is the Role of the National Government?

Trump is on record as saying that he is imposing tariffs on Canada until Canada does something about the flow of Fentanyl and Illegal Immigrants across the border, from Canada into the United States.

Last time I looked, the primary role of any government was to secure a place for its citizens; that is, to defend its borders against incursions.

What Is the Role of the National Government? Says that “The role of any national government is to protect the safety and well-being of its citizens and the sovereignty of the country’s borders.”

What can that mean? Try this:-

“The role of the government of the United States is to protect the safety and well-being of its (United States) citizens and the sovereignty of the country’s borders.”

It is the responsibility of the USA to protect its borders; it is NOT the responsibility of the Canadian government to secure the border INTO the United States.

When you cross the “longest undefended border in the world” by car, you pass through US immigration as you drive FROM Ontario INTO New York State, and when you return after a long weekend you drive FROM New York State and INTO Ontario and at that time you pass through Canadian immigration.

The Canadian government is quite rightly protecting is Canadian citizens from illegal immigration FROM the United States INTO Canada (Ontario)

Trump’s rant is a clear signal that

(a) He does not understand the concept of immigration and borders and

(b) He is admitting that the government of the United States has broken down to the extent that they are dependent on Canada for protection!
