Driving For Dummies -4
“Toronto police are investigating the shooting death of a man whose body was dumped from a speeding car on Highway 401 yesterday afternoon, creating traffic mayhem.”
A few more thoughts.
- Canada’s most populated highway.
- Canada’s busiest highway.
- In what is arguably Canada’s biggest, busiest city.
- At Keele Street, arguably the busiest stretch of the highway, any time, any day.
- 2:45 p.m. – mid-afternoon when we are all on the highway trying to beat the rush-hour which used to start at 5 p.m., and gradually crawled back to where it is now, 3 p.m., last time I looked.
Can you think of a worse time and place to dump a body on the highway?
I can’t.
I mean, even Bloor Street outside 22 Division is a better spot. All the police are inside the station, shielded from view behind their big fence, or else they’ve got the heck away from there and are somewhere else. What cop in their right mind would hang around the police station?
- We all have cell phones.
- Most of us have digital cameras.
- Many of us have cameras built in to our cell phones.
“Busy” includes truck drivers who, paid by the mile, are always on the lookout for something unusual that might give them the edge on navigating this stretch of highway. Many truck drivers are bored. Nearly all are tuned in to channel 19.
Truck drivers are always watching, always, and they see more than you and I might imagine. They too have cell phones.
From Keele and 401, where ya gonna go?
No matter how dumb you might want to paint the police, they do this for a living. They are specialists in tracking down objects and people.
There aren’t that many gold-colored Lexus automobiles around here, Toronto’s most affluent city; and engines stay warm for a considerable time.
