Do Take “NO” for an Answer
Rainbow Vacuum Cleaners . In my opinion the best vacuum cleaners in the world. Why? Because they are based on Good Physics.
The air comes from the nozzle down the tube, and in the canister is blasted towards a container of water, The dust and grit are retained in the water, the air bubbles out, and you don’t need a bag.
Brilliant!
Hospitals used them to filter air in rooms. I suspect that they capture viruses in that water bucket.
I used one for the first time at my in-laws, and then my wife and I bought one for ourselves. When the marriage broke up she took the Rainbow and I was heart-broken. I bought another for myself – a corporate expense at the time – and enjoyed it until a girlfriend took it upon herself to vacuum the entire house the day before my return from Australia.
My girlfriend didn’t realize that water had to be loaded into the tub, and used it – dry! Grit was sucked through the motor and that was that.
My finances have settled down and in retirement I decided to treat myself to another Rainbow. Back in 1985 they sold for about $cdn1,300, probably about $2,600 now, but there’s a catch. You can’t buy one! You have to ask for a customer representative to demonstrate it before taking an order.
Now this to me was a pain, because our first Rainbow we bought because we’d been using one for a year at the in-laws. Just drop off the vacuum, take the cheque and – No! We had to sit on the couch for an hour while the sales rep. showed us how good it was.
Same for the second one, the one I bought for myself. I had a pal, Russell, come and sit with me to stop me murdering the sales rep. Russell too knew the Rainbow because he had used ours!
So that’s the catch. You have to make an appointment and receive a visit from a sales rep, and when I decided to buy myself another Rainbow, I had moved to Bonavista, Newfoundland and the nearest sales rep was in Barrie, about a one-hour drive north of Toronto Ontario, according to Google maps a 37 hour drive with a ferry crossing.
No response from my email to Kleen Air Solutions in Barrie. I contacted Rexair World Headquarters in Troy, Michigan by email telling them I wanted my third Rainbow, and they replied that I should send another email to Kleen Air Solutions in Barrie. So I did. No response, although I had pasted RexAir’s response into this second email.
So? What to do?
My two second-hand vacuums were at the end of their lives, so I searched the web for wet-vac/shop-vac devices .
About $cdn100. I’m only estimating Rainbow at $2,600, because they don’t tell you the price until after the one-hour demo.
Clickety-Click, credit-card, and here is my wet-vac cleaner.
Plugged it in today; tipped a gallon of water into the bucket, fired it up.
Waddyaknow?!! It works just like a Rainbow, and is a lot lighter too.
Bonus! Some of the attachments for one of the old vacuum fit.
I am awfully glad that I didn’t bash my head against the brick wall that is Rainbow.
The bottom line for me, is that if someone goes out of their way not to sell their $2,600 vacuum to you, don’t try to make them sell to you! Buy one for $100 from someone else.
