Boarding Airplanes

…  and those who select the fare will be the last to board the plane.

In this published article, being last to board the plane is seen as a Bad Thing.

In Singapore back in November 1977 I stayed at the bar for an extra drink and was paged by the airline. I was last to board, and because I had delayed departure by fifteen or more minutes, received angry glares from the cabin crew (on behalf of the pilots) AND the passengers.

Rightly so.

But in my regular travels I consider it a privilege to be amongst the last to board.

I am about to spend five or more hours strapped into a narrow seat with little leg-room.

I’d much rather spend more time strolling around the departure lounge than spend more time strapped into a cocoon. With a fretting toddler behind my seat.
