Liberation from FREE
It sure would be nice to charge for every minute I pursue my hobbies ("Thinking", "Writing", "Chatting with Intelligent People", "Implementing Solutions to Problems").
I have been invited to submit some articles on a regular basis to a technical paper. I'm delighted. Part of the marketing plan that has been foisted upon me by Kimberly Mills says "Writing articles is a powerful way to build credibility and visibility. Your aim is to educate your prospective clients about your ability to apply what you know to their situation."
My canoeing pal Fred asks "How much are you charging them", and then says "Tut tut!" (this is, after all, a family newspaper).
My ice-cream slurping buddy Bill asks "How much are you charging them", and echoes Fred's comments.
A credo of "Keep It Simple, Scribe" echoes my feelings on the HST .
But this morning I mailed my monthly batch of about 300 postcards at $0.54 each.
- Say $150 in postage.
- Monthly.
Ignoring the time spent designing 10 cards and the money spent in getting them printed by Ken King.
Assume ITWorldCanada is read by 5,000 sys and net admins and CIOs across Canada, then my name is in front of 5,000 influential readers.
- At $0.54 that comes to $2,700.
- Weekly.
I know I can't compare a postcard to being part of a newspaper but still ...
